I must say that being in Israel for the holidays is awesome! I don't think I've seen so much festivity and eaten so much delicious food for Rosh Hashanah in my life. Apples and honey, sweet briskets, honey cakes, sweet cream cakes, salads, carmelized nuts, and more! So much yumminess. Gotta love the New Jew Year.
I have living with Eyal at his parent's apartment so far because we still have a lot of cleaning to do in the apartment that we will eventually live in. There was a lot of things to go through that his grandmother had kept for many years. His family came there and took a lot of the stuff so that helped. We came across a super nasty situation when I discovered creepy worms on the ceiling of the kitchen. It turns out they came from his huge jar of dry pasta that we found on a top shelf. We had to vacuum and spray the ceiling - I had a bit of a freak out once I realized what they were. I am not a fan of creepy bugs so I must give proper thanks to Eyal for helping out a lot during this scary, creepy, crawly moment. I may have cried. Haha. But seriously. It was gross. We need to start painting because the whole apartment is pink and peach. We have some paint from Eyal's mom and maybe we will buy some other color. It's a lot of work which I don't think I was prepared for, but it will all work out.
Today, Eyal and I went to the Ministry of Interior to get my Israeli identification card. I had to show them my passport, birth certificate, paperwork, etc. It went pretty fast though because we got there early in the morning. After that we went to register for my health insurance. I get one year of free health insurance from the government that provides me with general coverage. And in order to maximize the benefits through the insurance company I have the option to pay 34 shekels a month - that's about $9 a month for health care give or take a few dolars if I need to see a special type of doctor. How amazing is that. $9 a month! No co-pays, nothing. Sweeet.
