Some days my head feels like it is going to explode. After my Hebrew class today I was so exhausted from learning so much new material that I had to come back to my dorm and rest for a few hours. It's amazing how fast my brain is running trying to understand Hebrew.
Things are still going really well. I started running with a few of the American ladies on my program. Last night my friend Hannah and I went for a nice run that lasted a bit longer than expected. We got a little lost (Don't worry, we were in some really nice neighborhoods so still safe!) but with our lovely Hebrew skills we asked for directions and we are still alive.
This past Friday morning my study abroad group was taken on a tour of the first Kibbutz established in the Negev of Israel. This was before the Negev was officially a part of Israel so it was a dangerous time to live there. The name is Kibbutz Revivim. We saw trenches, bunkers, the old dining rooms, cabins and living quarters and secret communication rooms hid from the British. ֵOn one hand I feel very inspired by the work that the Jewish people did in the Negev. Only a handful of young men and women were placed in the Negev - it was lonely and scary. These people turned this desert into a productive agricultural area with their own hands and technology. On the other hand, there are people on the other side of the story who also wanted that land.
We also visited the Kibbutz Sde Boker where the famous David Ben Gurion lived for a short time. He was the first prime minister of Israel and a figure of the Zionist movement in Israel. Very interesting to learn about his past and life style. An extremely smart man - he knew several languages. We saw his old house and you would not believe how many books we had in the office/library! A scholar!

Eyal came to visit on Friday and we spent Shabbat dinner at his friend's family's house. On Saturday we went hiking in the Negev with his friend Tamir and his girlfriend Rotem. We accidentally stumbled upon an organic goat farm. We saw a baby goat right after it was born!! So awesome! Mazal Tov! מזל טוב!
